Council Grants Clearance for Takeoff of Local Commercial Passenger Air Service

Los Alamos County Airport Manager Peter Soderquist, left, and County Public Works Director Philo Shelton present details to Council of the small community air service development program grant from the U.S. Department of Transporation of $272,000, a $25,000 grant from the state of New Mexico and a $15,000 contribution from LANL’s Regional Development Corporation. This leaves a matching share of $28,000  for the County. Soderquist said that in 2010, LANL alone put more than 21,000 passangers through Albuquerque airport. The round trip ticket cost will be about $90 roundtrip with three trips per day between Los Alamos and Albuquerque. Photo by Carol A. Clark/ladailypost.com

Pilot Dave Jones of New Mexico Airlines attended this evening’s Council meeting. He will be flying the nine-passenger airplane between Los Alamos and Albuquerque. The plane will land at the Albuquerque Airport and the passengers will walk into an elevator that takes them straight up to security, avoiding the delay of walking through the entire airport.
