Council Approves Teen Center Funding

Melanie Borup, a longtime participant of the Los Alamos Teen Center, speaks of her experiences at the Center and thanks the County Council for all they do to help the community. Los Alamos County Council voted 7-0 to increase the total amount of the Family YMCA contract to operate the Los Alamos Teen Center July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014 not to exceed $194,155. The funding will primarily go to staffing as well as equipment and maintenance needs. An amendment was added to direct County staff to look into capital needs for use at the current Teen Center, to be transferred to the new Teen Center in 2015. The Teen Center now operates in the lower level of Trinity on the Hill Church at Canyon Road and Trinity Drive and is scheduled to move into the renovated upper level of the Community Building at 20th Street and Central Avenue next year. Photo by Carol A.
