  • Community asked to join in ‘Thanks for the Musical Memories’ honoring Russ Gordon

Los Alamos County Community Services Director Brian Brogan announced today that the Council has asked County staff for a special recognition honoring long-time concert producer Russ Gordon for his thousands of hours and 28 years of service dedicated to bringing great musical acts to Los Alamos.

The County contracts with Gordon each year to produce the Summer Concert Series. Gordon recently announced that he will be retiring and moving out of state.

The Council will prepare a special proclamation to be presented Sept. 5 honoring Gordon with his own special day: the last summer concert of the year on Friday, Sept. 8. Residents, businesses and organizations are asked to begin thinking now of creative ways they could say “thanks for the musical memories” to Gordon on Sept. 8 during the hours leading up to the last show he will host at 7 p.m. on the concert stage. Ideas could include “thanks Russ” posters in local business shops, offering a special drink, promotional product or food item named after Gordon Sept. 8, or inviting Gordon for farewell parties at local establishments or community parks.

Fans are asked to post photos with Russ enjoying his day to social media outlets such as Facebook and Instagram with the hashtags #makeafussoverRuss and #gr8musicfor28years as well as the County’s summertime activities hashtag: #100AHAMoments

Although it will be Gordon’s final concert Sept. 8, Brogan said today the County intends to issue a Request for Proposals for another company to take over concert production in order to continue the popular summer concerts next year. The concert draws in thousands of residents and visitors and is an important feature in the County’s tourism and marketing plans.
