The next monthly meeting of the Discoveries Action Team (DAT) is 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 in Council Chambers at 1000 Central Ave.
This month, the only item on the agenda is for the Place-Making and Place-Marketing subgroups to gather and work on their projects.
New members interested in joining the team are invited to come to the meeting and observe the work of the subgroups. Project champions will be available to network with new members and help them learn more about the projects in progress. Participants are asked to bring their own lunch.
Those who attend will hear about several of the projects brought forward by volunteers on either Place-Making (enhancing Los Alamos experiences) or Place-Marketing (promoting Los Alamos experiences) subgroups – many which are beginning to be implemented. For example, the “Little Shops Pop Up” promotion to bring vendors into the Y gym on Small Business Saturday (Nov. 30) and again during Winterfest Saturday (Dec. 7) was a concept that was first discussed within the Discoveries Action Team.
These two upcoming venues will be a pilot test for “Little Shops” that could eventually be a regular offering in downtown Los Alamos. Other projects have a basic framework or ideas that are in the early stages of creation or implementation but need project champions to carry them forward. New members are invited to stop by the meeting Nov. 14 to review a list of pending projects, which encompass a wide variety of interests.
The Discoveries Action Team is open to all County residents, businesses and organizations. Members are “champions” for the brand which incorporates the mindset that Los Alamos is a place that cultivates curiosity and creates aha moments and is represented by the brandline “where discoveries are made.” They share a desire to improve Los Alamos amenities and offerings, and communicate these benefits to residents, businesses and visitors.
The team meets 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the third Thursday of each month at various locations. To receive future meeting notices and updates, visit the Subscribe to Newsletters link at www.losalamosnm.us and check the box to be added to the Discoveries Action Team monthly email distribution list.
