Coro de Cámara News:

Venture with chamber chorus Coro de Cámara into the realm of imagination and vision in “Dreamscapes: Dare to Dream” – this uplifting concert invites us to consider our dreams, along with those of visionaries whose dreams became reality.

Two Matinee Performances:

  • Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m., United Church of Los Alamos, 2525 Canyon Road; and
  • Sunday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m., Unitarian Universalist Santa Fe, 107 West Barcelona Road.

About the “Dreamscapes” program, Artistic Director Nylea Butler-Moore says, “We tend to think of dreams as images and sensations we experience in sleep. But the word ‘dream’ encompasses much more. Dreams are possibility; catalysts for discovery and innovation; and powerful motivations for change. In one ‘Dreamscapes’ selection, Coro sings Langston Hughes’s memorable words, ‘Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.’ This program encourages us to hold fast to the precious dreams that give meaning, purpose and hope to our lives.”

“Dreamscapes” includes an inspirational script; poetry by influential Black writers Paul Laurence Dunbar and Langston Hughes; music by contemporary Black composers Rosephanye Powell and Joel Thompson; and featured work, “The Dreams that Remain” by composer Thomas LaVoy with poems by Sarojini Naidu, a leader in India’s struggle for independence. Coro’s singing of Kyle Pederson’s “Can We Sing the Darkness to Light” is enhanced with a dance choreographed by Karina Wilder and performed by dancers Jane Mocko and Sofia West of Dance Arts Los Alamos. Near the end of the program, Coro musicians and audience members speak together their dreams during “I Hope” by lyricist Charles Anthony Silvestri and Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen.

Since 1989, Coro de Cámara has shared captivating music with audiences in Los Alamos and Santa Fe. The group’s unique programs cover many topics with music in numerous styles, often with narration, instruments and multi-media.
