CORNELL News:

ITHACA, NY— The Cornell Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative (LTBCI) is once again offering multiple year-long grants for land trust projects that enhance private lands for birds and help land trusts reach conservation goals.

The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2022. Awarded grants will be distributed at the end of May or early June. Learn how to apply.

“Thanks to our generous funders we can award 14 grants to land trusts across the country in 2022,” said Cornell Land Trust Initiative Program Leader Sara Barker. “There are 6 capacity and partnership project grants of $5,000, as well as 7 grants of $25,000 for management and restoration projects.”

A strong theme running through all grant-awarded projects has been that of collaboration. The grants help land trusts develop partnerships within the birding community to amplify conservation efforts. Mutually beneficial collaborations result in more land conserved for birds, for other wildlife, and for people.

“Land trusts are key to preserving habitat that sustains wildlife and growing the footprint and impact of bird conservation on private lands,” Barker said. “This program buoys these efforts by providing technical guidance and funding to land trusts for activities such as habitat management and restoration work, increasing capacity for community outreach and partnerships, supporting implementation of bird monitoring, and by showcasing success stories to help others get started.”

2021 grant awardees received more than $250,000 in grants for projects now underway in 11 states.
