Co+op TerraCycle Program Supports Local Nonprofits

CO+OP News:

The Los Alamos Co+op Market’s TerraCycle program raised $405 over the last year for local nonprofits including Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and Friends of the Shelter.

PEEC received $135 and the Friends of the Shelter received $270.

Each year the Co+op invites customers, staff and volunteers to vote for recipients of the TerraCycle funds. The Co+op’s TerraCycle program is made possible by Co+op volunteers.

TerraCycle, a company seeking to eliminate the idea of waste, turns items previously considered trash into desirable products including park benches and hand bags. The Co+op’s TerraCycle program accepts the following items:

  • Chip Bags
  • Cereal Box Liners (Cereal boxes are NOT accepted)
  • Bagged Cereal Bags
  • Baby Food Pouches
  • NO paperboard

To reduce items going to the landfill, here are additional ways to recycle in Los Alamos:

  • Glass – the Co+op has a yellow recycling bin on the east side of its parking lot for glass.
  • Additional TerraCycle items – Little Forest Playschool’s TerraCycle program raises funds for their operation.
  • Other plastics, metals and more – Azazo Recycling accepts a wide range of items.
