Co+op News:

Black Friday … Small Business Saturday … Cyber Monday … Giving Tuesday … if you’ve started thinking about holiday presents and end-of-year donations, you’re in good company.

This year, the Los Alamos Cooperative Market (Co+op) is helping community members fulfill their December to-do lists with a “Giving & Gifting Fair” Nov. 27, the Sunday between Small Business Saturday and Giving Tuesday.

Noon to 4 p.m., local nonprofits and area farmers, artists and other vendors will set up shop inside and around the Co-op at 95 Entrada Dr.

Shoppers will be able to purchase locally made handcrafts such as banners and flags, ceramic dishware, handknit shawls, handbound journals, and handmade skin and body care products for recipients on their gift lists. And for those family and friends who are hard to shop for, what better than a donation in their honor to a local nonprofit whose services benefit our community? Multiple nonprofits will be in attendance at the fair sharing details about the ways they better this community.

Promoting local vendors and nonprofit organizations is one of the ways the Co+op fulfills its mission to support a healthy local economy and champion environmental sustainability. The Los Alamos Cooperative Market opened in 2011 and was formed by local community members.

The Co+op adheres to the seven cooperative principles:

  • Open and voluntary membership;
  • Democratic member control;
  • Members’ economic participation;
  • Autonomy and Independence;
  • Education, training, and information;
  • Cooperation among cooperatives; and
  • Concern for community.

The local Co+op is a member of a nation-wide family of cooperative groceries, credit unions, and other cooperatives that follow the golden rule of the “Triple Bottom Line” – people, planet and profit.

Los Alamos Co+op is at 95 Entrada Drive. Contact the Co+op at 505.695.1579, www.losalamos.coop, “The heart of the community at the edge of town.”
