U.S. SENATE News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M) released the following statement Thursday on Senate passage of a Udall-cosponsored, bipartisan resolution condemning all forms of anti-Semitism.

The resolution recognizes and condemns the long history of anti-Semitism, and the fact that Jews are the targets of the majority of hate crimes committed against any religious group in the United States.

The resolution also commits the U.S. Senate to take action to combat all forms of anti-Semitism in our nation.

“In recent years, we’ve borne witness to a deeply disturbing spike in anti-Semitic incidents, attacks, and hate crimes in the United States. These unspeakable acts of hatred – from white supremacists marching, rioting and perpetrating violence in Charlottesville to the massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh — are seared in our minds forever. And for many in the Jewish community in New Mexico and across the country, they recall a horrific and harrowing past.

“In the face of this hate-filled rhetoric and terror, we must stand up together to forcefully condemn the anti-Semitism that has stained our history and is once again on the rise. This resolution sends a clear signal about who we are as a nation – that we will always fight against hatred and choose unity over division, love over bigotry. I’m proud to stand alongside so many dedicated people across the country to help protect the principles of acceptance, respect and community – the foundations of who we are as New Mexicans and Americans.”
