Staff Report

Small Business Saturday is Nov. 30 and the Los Alamos Daily Post has a 12-page special section in today's print edition, which includes business listings, maps and more to help shoppers make the most of this day that is so important for local businesses.

Below is a tribute to Los Alamos small businesses appearing in our special section today:

Animal Clinic of Los Alamos: With its humble beginnings as a house call practice in the mid 1980’s, the Animal Clinic of Los Alamos has grown into a full-service veterinary hospital for dogs and cats. Our experienced and dedicated veterinarians provide the knowledge and experience required of today’s veterinary hospitals. Investment in the latest diagnostic and monitoring equipment enhances our staff’s knowledge and experience, allowing for early and accurate diagnoses and prompt and thorough treatments. Our comprehensive approach to veterinary medicine is made complete by the compassionate care and concern our entire team has for the individual patient. We are here for the life of your pet!

Atomic City Quilts: ACQ has recently expanded the cross stitch offerings and contains many kits and patterns with a Southwest flair – more Cross Stitch to come with other items in focus. ACQ hosts a Block-of-the-Month each year with three different ones being offered in 2020 – so those wanting to challenge themselves and those wanting to learn have a BOM just for them. New for 2020 – 20 percent off on your birthday (consignment items not included) and 20 percent off any single cut over 2 yards or more. (Both offers start Nov. 30).

Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op: Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op is the first craft brewery in Los Alamos and the fourth beer cooperative in the country. We are focused on producing the highest quality, fresh, delicious craft beer, and serving it in the taproom and at local events. Our friendly and knowledgeable Tub staff are ready to serve up a pint and welcome you to our community gathering spot.

Bennett’s Fine Jewelry: The Bennett family moved to Los Alamos in 1998 and describe it as a “great place to live and a great community”. They officially opened Bennett’s Fine Jewelry Feb. 7, 2007. Melanie and Ernie Bennett, with the help of Yasmin Acosta, operate the jewelry store in the heart of downtown Los Alamos at 107 Central Park Square. We support the community by offering a needed service, we have made significant investments in Bennett’s Fine Jewelry including offering CAD work and custom design. Our customers love having a full-service jewelry store, a great place to shop and an establishment they can trust. Bennett’s Fine Jewelry is a member of the American Gem Society (AGS). AGS holds their members to extremely high ethical standards. Our customers and neighbors know that Bennett’s Fine Jewelry can be trusted. Bliss: I really enjoy the small town feeling and knowing most of my customers by name. I have always wanted to have a shop like this, something different and unquestionably unique and yet somewhat nostalgic of a time gone by.

Century Bank: No one knows your business better than you do and no one knows Business Banking better than Century Bank. We understand that every business is different. We offer a variety of business checking and savings plans so you can choose what meets your unique needs. Ask about our other banking services including Commercial Loans, Merchant Processing and Treasury Management Services. We invite you to experience what it means when you matter.

Cricket Window: I have been in the antiques and collectibles business for 15+ years. In those 15 years I have come across many very beautiful and unique items. Many of those items I use to bring functionality and beauty into my own home. I love decorating with vintage and handmade items. I believe there are enough wonderful items in this world that we can re-purposing and use to make living environments that are functional, beautiful and that reflect our individual tastes. By recycling, you can create a space that is not only beautiful but also Eco-friendly. I am an avid collector with a deep appreciation for the past. Out of my love for decorating and the planet, I will focus on supplying authentic antique and vintage goods and handmade Eco-friendly pieces to people who don't have time or ways to source these pieces themselves. By reusing and re-purposing such things, you can create a one-of-a-kind environment that's functional and green.

Karen Wray Gallery: Upon entering The Karen Wray Gallery one is initially aware that one is in a space full of captivating images. Our artists tend toward representational images and many times they’ve captured the vistas that are most loved in the beauty surrounding the magnificent mountain and canyon areas in which we live.  There are other objects such as those sculpted from clay and some from metal depicting horses and other animal species known to inhabit our region. These are all crafted by local and living artists. Yet it doesn’t have a crowded feeling rather one of spaciousness where one can move around to meet and regard the works one by one. More than a Gallery, it’s a genuine community meeting place where artists and those who love art can get together. Karen teaches painting a few times a week and also provides a venue for local artists to paint in an open studio environment every week. It truly is a living Gallery.
