Summer Blockbusters Begin At Unitarian Church

The Unitarian Church of Los Alamos begins its annual “Summer Blockbusters” series this weekend with a viewing of the film Arrival at 7 p.m., Saturday July 8, followed by a sermon on the movie’s themes at 10:45 a.m., Sunday, July 9.
The Oscar-nominated Arrival tells the story of linguistics professor Louise Banks who leads an elite team of investigators when gigantic spaceships appear in 12 locations around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, Banks and her crew must race against time to find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors.

The church’s annual “Summer Blockbusters” series focuses on themes in recent movies that shine a light on the principles and values of the Unitarian Universalist faith tradition. The series will continue the weekend of July 29 with Kubo & the Two Strings. The animated hit Moana follows Aug. 12. The series concludes Aug. 26 with Fences. Dinner and a Movie nights Saturdays, followed by a service at 10:45 a.m. Sundays on the movie’s themes.
