Seniors Rally Against TPP Trade Deal

ARA News:

ALBUQUERQUE  Retirees and concerned citizens will join a rally at 6 p.m., today, Jan. 12, at the Federation of Labor in Albuquerque (2300 Buena Vista Dr SE #126) to demonstrate their opposition to the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement.

President Obama is expected to push for passage of the TPP during his State of the Union Address tonight.

Nationally, seniors will hold more than 20 rallies today to draw attention to the fact that the TPP will lock in high prices for prescription drugs.

“The TPP will be bad for jobs and bad for consumers who rely on prescription drugs,” said John Doran, president of the New Mexico Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA). “Americans pay the highest prescription drug prices in the industrialized world, and last year drug prices went up by 13 percent, more than eight times the rate of inflation. We are calling on Members of Congress to oppose this agreement that will lock in high drug costs and line the pockets of the pharmaceutical industry.”

A fact sheet detailing the link between prescription drug prices and the TPP can be found on the Alliance’s website here.
