Senior Centers Host Presentation On The Five Wishes

The White Rock and Betty Ehart Senior Centers will each host a presentation on The Five Wishes.

The presentations, done in conjunction with Tim Rivera of Rivera Funeral Homes and Jenn Bartram of Final Wishes Known, will take place at each center.

The purpose is to foster discussion for those who need a boost to create such documents. Often many find the process time consuming or financially limiting, and these events hope to solve both issues.

“After all the years of meeting with families under what could be described as the worst day of their life … I have experienced how much stress and conflict can be avoided if a person documents their personal wishes,” Rivera said. “I always receive comments on how much people appreciate being able to ask questions and have explanations and answers directly from someone in the profession.”

Bartram will facilitate the discussion for The Five Wishes and serves as a mobile notary. The benefit of having a mobile notary gives the document another level of legitimacy. Those who attend the Aug. 9 event from 10-11 a.m. will leave with documentation in hand. The team believes that events like this can help take the mystery out of what can feel like a taboo, or uncomfortable subjects.

“I’m grateful to have this opportunity to talk with people, as I have learned through my many years of experience working with families that The Five Wishes is a great first step to clarifying your final directives,” Bartram said. “It is a wonderful mechanism to start the thought process.”

Rivera praised Bartram as someone who is very informed and loves to share her knowledge.

Chaplain Bartram, as many know her, also created Final Wishes Known. The program allows residents to have time alone or with family, to discuss many important end of life details. That time then translates into a binder that acts as a roadmap for family in the event of ill health issues.

The presentation at the Betty Ehart Senior Center is 10-11 a.m. Aug. 9; and

The presentation at the White Rock Senior Center is 10-11 a.m. Sept. 18.
