Los Alamos Historical Society Board President Mike Wheeler and  Executive Director Heather McClenahan make opening Friday remarks at Los Alamos History Musuem exhibit, ‘Atoms and Art: The Intersecting Lives of Maria Poveka Martinez and Bernice Bidwell Brode’ at the museum. The exhibit features pottery created by San Ildefonso Pueblo artist Poveka Martinez, owned by Brode who wrote ‘Takes of Los Alamos: Life on the Mesa 1943-1945’. The exhibit is sponsored by Los Alamos National Bank. Joey Brode, Bernice’s daughter-in-law, donated the pottery. ‘The thing I love about this exhibit is it brings many things together in my family,’ Joey Brode said, adding that the exhibit shows a love for the outdoors and respect for craft, art and spirituality. McClenahan credited several people in putting the exhibit together including Museum Educator Aimee Slaughter and Curator Don Cavness. She said this will probably be her final exhibit opening as executive director as she is retiring in April. Photo by Kirsten Laskey/ladailypost.com
