ROTARY News:

The Rotary Club of Los Alamos has announced that its Community Funding Request applications are now being accepted.

This is the third year that the local service organization has offered funding opportunities in the fall and spring. Organizations in Los Alamos and around northern New Mexico may request up to $500 for a specific project.

Applications are due Oct. 31 and can be found on the Rotary Club website at rotarylosalamos.com/grant-application.

All projects will be considered with particular attention being given to projects that fall into one of Rotary’s six areas of focus:
  • Maternal and child health;
  • Basic education and literacy;
  • Economic and community development;
  • Peace and conflict resolution/prevention;
  • Disease prevention and treatment; and
  • Water and sanitation.

Besides funding, organizations will also be able to specify whether there are opportunities for members of the Rotary Club to volunteer their time to assist with the project or initiative.

After applications are reviewed, up to six organizations will be invited to the Club’s meeting noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 to give a short presentation about how the funds would be used. Recipients will be announced shortly thereafter, and awards presented Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Rotary Club meeting on Giving.

In 2018, the Rotary Club of Los Alamos vetted numerous applications from local organizations and ultimately awarded $4,000 in grants.

To apply, organizations in Los Alamos and northern New Mexico should visit rotarylosalamos.com/grant-application and submit the application form online.

Alternatively, they may download the form, fill it out, and return it by email to Jean Gindreau at pac8losalamos@gmail.com.

The Rotary Club of Los Alamos has approximately 60 Rotarians working together to serve community and global causes. The Club meets at noon every Tuesday at Cottonwood on the Greens. A satellite of the Club meets at 5:30 p.m. every first Wednesday at projectY; an additional meeting is sometimes scheduled later in the month. The meetings are open to anyone who wishes to learn how the Rotary Club of Los Alamos is working to build community, bridge continents, and grow in vocations and friendships.
