SANTA FE – The New Mexico House Saturday passed Rep. Nathan Small’s (D-Las Cruces) Memorial to promote college readiness.

House Memorial 46 convenes a task force between the Higher Education Department and the Public Education Department to recommend a strategy to bolster New Mexico’s dual credit program.

“Students from across the state are engaged in this program and are getting ahead because of the opportunity to take college classes while still in high school. Dual credits are important because they provide an affordable way for students to begin college,” Rep. Small said.

“As our state sees a decline in college enrollment on college campuses across the state, this is critical in retaining students in New Mexico and ensuring they are empowered to begin college with a head start.

“House Democrats know that a solid economy starts with a workforce that is prepared for the jobs of the future and work to invest in opportunities for everyday New Mexicans to get ahead.”
