WIPP News:

Photographic work in support of the Accident Investigation Board (AIB) has been completed in Room 7 Panel 7, the location of the Feb. 14, 2014, radiological event at WIPP.

Using Project Reach, a specially designed and manufactured 90-foot composite boom equipped with high resolution photographic equipment, WIPP employees completed video mapping of all waste stacks and packages in Room 7. Waste in the WIPP underground facility is stacked in six columns, with each column consisting of up to three layers of TRU waste containers.

The Project Reach boom and camera systems were installed on a movable cradle and mounted on a support structure, that allowed operators to examine waste stacks from floor to ceiling and from wall to wall.

AIB members are reviewing the video data while WIPP employees dismantle the Project Reach device. Click here to view a short video clip of Project Reach.

The City of Carlsbad and DOE will co-host the WIPP Town Hall meeting featuring updates on WIPP recovery activities. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today in the Carlsbad City Council Chambers, 101 N. Halagueno St. Live streaming of the meeting can be seen at http://new.livestream.com/rrv/.
