BOOK News:

Nationally acclaimed northern New Mexico painter Lori Faye Bock has released a new greeting card now available with her line of more than 60 cards for the holiday season.

Many New Mexican pet lovers are already acquainted with Bock’s work - over the years she has partnered with organizations such as PetSmart Charities, the A.S.P.C.A., American Humane Association and scores of humane societies, rescue groups and animal shelters to promote educational campaigns for the humane and kind treatment of all animals. If your veterinarian suggests micro chipping your companion pet, it may be due to Bock’s colorful and distinctive paintings from 2000 to 2006 to promote AHA’s national Tag Day.

Bock recommends individuals visit local retailers for her Christmas card portfolios and if unable to locate any in their neighborhood, to visit her online at www.LoriFayeBock.store where they may participate in a Christmas storewide sale.

A Detroit transplant via Santa Monica and Santa Fe, Bock resides in the tiny agricultural hamlet of Los Silvestres, just north of the village of Abiquiú. Since 1990, she and her husband have renovated and expanded upon an early 18th century mud adobe farmhouse. A flock of sheep including the biblical Jacob sheep and a houseful of cats and dogs over the years provided the inspiration to transition from her original career as a ceramicist, to a painter in 1996.

She has been a mainstay with her whimsical creations in galleries on historic Canyon Road in Santa Fe as well as Taos where she exhibits today. As Bock began to realize she could not keep up with the requests for donations she was receiving on a regular basis from humane societies she came up with solution.

She then began the reproduction of her paintings as limited edition prints and greeting cards.

One of the first four cards she went to press with was Vintage Friends .... three sheep in an old GMC pickup truck which to this day is still the most popular card in the line of more than 60 cards. Bock states, “The image and title enables long term friends and those in recent relationships to connect in a way which transcends words and transmits a positive and happy greeting.”

A participant in the New Mexico True Certified 100 percent Made In NM campaign, Bock believes the sticker designation on each individual card, gift portfolio and limited edition print encourages state residents and visitors alike to support the diversification of the New Mexico economy.

The Gift, a recent painting by Bock of a cat with a mourning dove nesting in festive holly atop its head is symbolic of rejuvenation and hope during the holiday season.

“I’m a cat person to be sure. We have had many dogs and sheep over the years. All with names and distinct personalities. Cats are much easier to cuddle with in bed!”
