PEEC News:

Watch “Interstellar” this evening in the Los Alamos Nature Center’s planetarium for PEEC’s summer movie series “Suds & Shows.”

Doors open at 6 p.m. and beer and wine are available from Pajarito Brewpub & Grill at a cash bar. The movie starts at 7 p.m. in the planetarium.

Bring a picnic dinner to have outside, buy drinks and enjoy spending time at the nature center before the movie. Movie tickets are $5 per person and drinks are available for purchase throughout the evening.

In addition to this movie screening, Peter Polko is giving a talk at 6 p.m. Friday, June 28, in the planetarium about the science behind the film.

When “Interstellar” came out, it was touted as the first physics-based science fiction film. Polko will explore what parts of the film are plausible based on current physics and what parts are purely science fiction. He will focus on the iconic black hole that is depicted in the film and explain the interesting processes that happen around it.

To learn more about black holes, the nature center is playing the full-dome film “Black Holes” at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 29. This film explores the world of black holes: a place where time stands still, universal order breaks down and the unimaginable becomes a reality. Tickets for Polko’s talk and “Black Holes” are $6 per adult and $4 per child.

Because there is limited seating in the planetarium, reserve tickets for all of these events in advance. Tickets may be reserved by visiting or calling the Los Alamos Nature Center at 505.662.0460.
