BETTY ANN LINDSEY PERKINS March 15, 2019

Betty Ann Lindsey Perkins, age 86, of Los Alamos, NM passed away peacefully March 15, 2019 after fighting myelodysplastic syndrome for multiple years.

Betty was born and lived in Amarillo, Texas, but spent much of her childhood in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

She enjoyed her summers in the Jemez and in the Pecos riding horses, attending Girl Scout Camp, enjoying Santa Fe, and appreciating the cool mountain temperatures. Her father served as an accountant for the Los Alamos Ranch School and her grandfather served as the Governor of New Mexico.

Betty met her husband, Roger Bruce Perkins, as a graduate student working for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. She attended Wooster and Radcliffe (Harvard) college and obtained a master’s degree in physics. She worked for General Electric and several national laboratories, before settling down in Los Alamos. Betty worked for the State of New Mexico developing air emission, uranium and coal industry regulations for the state and later worked for Los Alamos National Laboratory as a technical staff member.

Betty enjoyed the outdoors and exploring the geology of the area. She led a local hiking group called the Walkie Talkies and ran in local running races. She knew the names of all the local flowers, plants, birds, and animals.

Betty is survived by her three daughters, Martha Perkins, Ann Perkins, and Elaine Jacobs; three grandchildren, Lindsey Jacobs, John Jacobs, and James Coburn; and a son-in-law Brian Jacobs.

A private ceremony for family will occur this summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Doctors without Borders, Planned Parenthood - Santa Fe Health Center, The Food Depot, the New Mexico Wildlife Center, or any other charity of your choice.
