NWS Issues Hazardous Weather Outlook

NWS News:

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued the following hazardous weather outlook for portions of North and Central New Mexico.

DAY ONE ...TODAY AND TONIGHT:

WIND CHILLS READINGS BETWEEN 10 DEGREES BELOW ZERO TO 10 DEGREES ABOVE ZERO WILL BE COMMON ACROSS CENTRAL AND EASTERN NEW MEXICO THIS MORNING.

SNOW WILL CONTINUE TODAY. LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOWFALL AREA WIDE THIS MORNING WILL DECREASE THIS AFTERNOON BEFORE BECOMING FOCUSED ACROSS THE NORTHWEST THIRD OF THE STATE TONIGHT.

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT SNOWS WILL BE ACROSS THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS...SPECIFICALLY...THE SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS. ALSO THE JEMEZ MOUNTAINS-NORTHWEST PLATEAU-CHUSKA MOUNTAINS-FAR NORTHWEST HIGHLANDS-NORTHWEST HIGHLANDS-WEST CENTRAL PLATEAU-WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS-WEST CENTRAL HIGHLANDS-SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS-SAN FRANCISCO RIVER VALLEY-SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS-WEST SLOPES SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS-NORTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS ABOVE 9500 FEET/RED RIVER-SOUTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS ABOVE 9500 FEET-EAST SLOPES SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS-UPPER RIO GRANDE VALLEY-LOWER CHAMA RIVER VALLEY-SANTA FE METRO AREA-ALBUQUERQUE METRO AREA-LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY-SANDIA/MANZANO MOUNTAINS-ESTANCIA VALLEY-CENTRAL HIGHLANDS-SOUTH CENTRAL HIGHLANDS-UPPER TULAROSA VALLEY-SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS-RATON RIDGE/JOHNSON MESA-FAR NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS-NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS-UNION COUNTY-HARDING COUNTY-EASTERN SAN MIGUEL COUNTY-GUADALUPE COUNTY-QUAY COUNTY-CURRY COUNTY-ROOSEVELT COUNTY-DE BACA COUNTY-CHAVES COUNTY PLAINS-EASTERN LINCOLN COUNTY-SOUTHWEST CHAVES COUNTY.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN:

TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY AN UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL CROSS THE STATE ON TUESDAY... BRINGING ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL TO MUCH OF CENTRAL AND WESTERN NEW MEXICO. LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOWFALL AMOUNTS ARE LIKELY...ESPECIALLY BETWEEN THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN. RAIN MAY MIX WITH SNOW AT TIMES. IMPACTS TO TRAVEL ARE POSSIBLE.

ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM AND ASSOCIATED BACK DOOR COLD FRONT WILL BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF SNOW TO NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE. THE ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH ADDITIONAL SNOWS LIKELY.
