SANTA FE Fans of all things New Mexico chile will have another way to display their pride during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.

The New Mexico Tourism Department invites guests of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta and New Mexico residents to participate in a scavenger hunt for limited-edition chile decals so families can show that chile is truly a family affair.

“Chile is a point of pride for many New Mexico residents and visitors, and we’re always looking for more opportunities for fans of New Mexico chile to display their passion,” Tourism Secretary Jen Paul Schroer said. “We believe this scavenger hunt is a nice opportunity to encourage both visitors and residents to explore Albuquerque and many of the great experiences the city has to offer.”

The scavenger hunt will bring visitors and residents to some of Albuquerque’s signature experiences where they can collect one of eight chile family members.
  • Chile dad – New Mexico True booth at the Balloon Fiesta
  • Chile mom – Anderson-Abruzzo International Balloon Museum

Some of the experiences and points of interest from the chile family decal scavenger hunt are also featured in the 10 Best Photography Destinations of New Mexico Guide that will be available at the New Mexico True booth. Along with Albuquerque points of interest such as the Sandia Peak Tram, Albuquerque Old Town, and Petroglyph National Monument, the photo guide features other great New Mexico locations such as the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, Valles Caldera National Preserve, and Ghost Ranch among others.

“The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is one of the most photographed events in the world, and can inspire the photographer in all of us,” Schroer said. “With so many people embracing their inner photographer, the Balloon Fiesta is a great opportunity to encourage visitors to explore New Mexico and capture the beauty of our seasons, landscapes, and experiences throughout the state.”

Members from the New Mexico Tourism Department will be available at the Balloon Fiesta to answer questions about the limited-edition chile decals, along with questions about traveling to and throughout New Mexico.

An interactive map of all chile decal locations is also located on NewMexico.org.
