SANTA FE New Mexico Speaker of the House Brian Egolf (D-Santa Fe) released the following statement Friday in recognition of Rep. Eliseo Lee Alcon (D-Milan) receiving his Bronze Star medal for his service as a combat medic in Vietnam:
"Representative Eliseo Lee Alcon has spent his career serving others – in Vietnam and now in the State Legislature. Decades following his service in the military, Rep. Alcon still didn't receive his Bronze Star, but now his medal is safely under his guard. Throughout my time in the House of Representatives, Rep. Alcon has always had a smile and a wit that has kept me going, but most of all, his dedication to representing his community continues to inspire me," Speaker Brian Egolf. "I am proud to congratulate Rep. Alcon on his medal, and I am forever grateful for his service.
Thursday, U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) presented Rep. Alcon with the Bronze Star Medal that he earned, but never received for his service. "Rep. Alcon has spent his life in service to our nation and our state. House Democrats congratulate Rep. Alcon on receiving this honor."
