VOLUNTEER News:

April 7-13 is National Volunteer Week, an opportunity to shine a light on the people and causes that inspire others to serve.

It is a time to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism and volunteering.

Laura Hendrie is a hospice volunteer at Ambercare Hospice of Santa Fe. She is passionate about what she does and said she feels privileged to spend time with individuals and families facing the end of life. And while most people assume being a hospice volunteer might be scary or uncomfortable, Hendrie said that she feels just the opposite.

Hendrie recently shared her hospice experience in an op-ed published by the Santa Fe New Mexican, in which she writes, “I’ve never left the home of a hospice family without feeling that I’m the one who ought to be grateful, and I’ve come to believe most of us in hospice feel this way.”
