LAPSF News:

The Stoddard Scholarships for Nursing and Education were the result of the late Steve Stoddard’s work on the Board of the Caldera National Preserve, where he helped decide the future of the unique and beautiful area of Northern New Mexico.

Stoddard was paid a stipend for his work and the money accumulated during his years of service.

Stoddard, along with his wife Barbara, recognized the need for more quality teachers and nurses. They formed this scholarship, which is awarded to outstanding graduates of Los Alamos High School planning to major in nursing or education at an accredited New Mexico college or university.

The 2013 recipients are Amanda Milligan and Analicia Ronquillo.

Milligan received the nursing award. She will attend the University of New Mexico to pursue bachelors and masters degrees in nursing. Milligan said she was inspired by her father’s career as a nurse. He served as a nurse and then benefited from great nursing as he battled prolonged heath issues.

Analicia Ronquillo received the teaching award. She will attend the University of New Mexico to pursue a degree in special education, with plans to work in public education as an occupational therapist. Ronquillo said she was inspired by her internship with the Special Education Department at Los Alamos High School.
