Lunch With A Leader On Zero Waste Feb. 19

on February 5, 2019 - 6:12am
LWV News:
The League of Women Voters will hear from four women leaders in the field of xero waste during Lunch with a Leader at 11:45 a.m., Feb. 19 in Mesa Public Library.
Sue Barns came to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a postdoctoral fellow in microbiology in 1996 and remained until 2008. She will talk about food waste.
Angelica Gurule will explain the activities of the Environmental Services/Eco Station. She has a MS in Sustainable Environmental Resources Management and a MS in Information, Science, and Technology. She worked at LANL on pollution prevention before becoming manager of the Environmental Services/Eco Station.
Dorothy Brown will discuss composting. She grew up in upstate New York and also lived in the Bay Area. She has worked as a registered nurse, physician's assistant and flight instructor.
Jody Benson will talk about the Kroger Corporation’s goals of becoming zero food waste by 2025. Benson moved to Los Alamos at age 10 when her father was recruited as one of the first private practice physicians after the gates opened in 1958. Like most people of her generation with a liberal arts degree, she worked many jobs in the U.S. and the world before returning to Los Alamos to work at LANL. She has been actively involved in environmental issues for decades.
Note: the Co+op is now sending salads in paper/cardboard containers that decompose instead of using plastic ones. The League and the Co+op are getting on board with helping the planet. All the plastic utensils and cups used at Lunch with a Leader are washed and reused. To order a $10 lunch from the Co+op, email Karyl Ann Armbruster at or call her at 505.231.8286 by Feb. 16 for lunch choices. The entire community is invited to Lunch with a Leader and purchasing a lunch is voluntary.
