CONGRESSIONAL News:

ALBUQUERQUE Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján (NM-3) held a tele-press call with DACA recipients and allies to discuss H.R. 6, The Dream and Promise Act, new legislation that would provide permanent protections for undocumented immigrant youth and those under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED).

The Dream and Promise Act recognizes the urgent need to provide permanent protections without using immigrants as bargaining chips to win a host of anti-immigrant provisions.

Rep. Ben Ray Luján - Sponsor of H.R. 6 and Representative of New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District said:

“I am proud to strongly support this legislation that will bring certainty to the lives of these young leaders in the United States.”

Jasmin Coronel - Former DACA Recipient and Attorney with the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center said:

“The Dream & Promise Act would protect millions of people, including youth who moved to the United States before 18, and adults with TPS and DED who’ve called the US their home for decades. That’s over 2.5 million people!”

Michelle Murguia - Dream & Promise Act potential beneficiary and New Mexico Dream Team / United We Dream member said:

“The Dream and Promise Act shows us a different path forward on immigration - one that rejects the wall and billions for the Deportation Force - and instead leads us towards permanent protections. It would allow me to not only be able to obtain my degree in my dream career field of computer engineering, but also to be able to use my degree to practice my profession.”

Marian J. Méndez-Cera - DACA Recipient, community ally and organizer with El Centro De Igualdad Y Derechos said:

“We stand in support of this bill, which would be a step towards our ultimate goal to achieve a path to citizenship for the 11 million living in mixed status families-- who’ve made this country their home who only want to further contribute to New Mexico and this nation”.

Evelia Mendoza - DACA Recipient / Dream & Promise Act potential beneficiary and member with Somos Un Pueblo Unido said:

“The investments that New Mexico made in young people like me better prepared us to make the most of DACA. I was able to get a better paying job, buy my first car, take care of my mother and create a better life for my family. We support the Dream & Promise Act because it is a smart extension of the work our local leaders have done to support common sense policies that integrate immigrants, rather than alienate.”

AnhDao Bui - Social Services Director / Co-Interim Director with New Mexico Asian Families Center said:

“Our current immigration system is broken and we need a more comprehensive immigration reform that includes the Dream & Promise Act that will protect Dreamers, TPS, and DED holders.”
