Former Los Alamos High School baseball star Jared Mang was picked Wednesday in the 18th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft. He will be playing with the Detroit Tigers.

Mang, 22, has been playing for the University of New Mexico Lobos baseball team for the past four years as starter in the outfield and team captain for the 2019 season.

A four-year standout for the Lobos, Mang put the finishing touches on a sensational career at UNM with a productive senior campaign. Overall, he hit .365 (76-for-208) this season with 57 runs scored, 23 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 51 RBIs. He slugged at a clip of .587 and posted an on-base percentage of .441.

Mang also swiped 15 bases and did not commit an error defensively.

In MW-only action, Mang hit .385 (45-for-117) over 28 games with 28 runs scored, 13 doubles, a triple, four home runs, and 19 RBIs. Mang's MW slugging percentage was .615, and his on-base percentage checked in at .426. His batting average, slugging percentage and hits all ranked second in league play while his total bases (72) and doubles topped the league in MW-only play.
