on September 11, 2019 - 2:23pm

COUNTY News:

Due to the recent resignations of three members of the Board of Registration, the Los Alamos County Council is seeking applicants to fill the remainder of the two-year term on the local Board of Registration.

The requirements for the members of this Board state that not more than two members can be of the same political party so for these vacancies, no Democrats can be appointed.

Additional requirements state that the members of the Board shall not be county employees (including poll workers), elected officials or candidates for public office (including School Board or UNM-LA Advisory Board).

Consideration and filling of vacancies for the Board of Registration, which also serves as the Canvassing Committee after elections, has been placed on the Council’s Oct. 29 meeting agenda (6 p.m., Council Chambers). A call for letters of interest is now open and letters are due to the County Manager no later than 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17.

Interested applicants must be a registered voter in Los Alamos County. To apply, individuals are asked to submit a short letter with their name, address and a short paragraph indicating why they would be interested in serving on the Board. Under State law, any qualified person over the age of 18 who is a resident of Los Alamos County may serve.

Letters should be mailed or hand-delivered to County Manager Harry Burgess, Los Alamos County Municipal Building, 1000 Central Avenue, Suite 350, Los Alamos, NM 87544 by the deadline. Candidates who submit a letter do not need to be present at the Oct. 29 Council meeting.
