LAAC News:

Come one, come all! It’s time to fly kites! Los Alamos Arts Council presents the 22nd Annual Kite Festival. Kids of all ages are invited to the Spiro Soccer Fields at Overlook Park in White Rock.

The arts council  will hold Kite Building workshops noon to 2 p.m. Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19.

Los Alamos Arts Council volunteers will help children build kites, or just give them guidance in designing a kite if they are of the age that they just want to color.

After the kite is built and designed, pass through the fly-line tent, get a fly-line, free t-shirt and check out the arts council’s raffle items and Pumpkin Glow World Record table. Raffle tickets are for one of two Brian Billow paintings.

Raffle tickets are $5 each, or five for $20.  The drawing will be held June 11, participants do not need to be present to win. The arts council’s Pumpkin Glow Chair and LAAC volunteers will also talk to the public regarding its efforts to beat the Guinness Book of World Records title of most pumpkins carved at one time.

Fly kites on the soccer field with kite artists Sam and Barbie Pedregon from Pueblo, Colo., and Carveth and Luella Kramer. Not to mention LAPS 4th graders, who make kites in their art classes over the past month. The arts council can’t wait to see all the designs and creativity from the youth in the community. Maybe one of the kids will be the next Homan Walsh?

Chartwells will provide good and drinks, and Houdini’s Kettle Corn will also be there! Please stay for kite flying until 4 p.m.
This is wonderful free event is brought to you by the Los Alamos Arts Council in partnership with LANB (Enterprise Bank and Trust), Los Alamos Children’s Dentistry, Los Alamos Rotary Club, New Mexico Bank and Trust, and individual donations from members of the community.
