National Theatre Live in HD: Frankenstein
7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 29
Tickets: $22

Captured live in 2011 from the National Theatre stage in London, this thrilling, sold-out production became an international sensation. Now, marking the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s most famous novel, it returns to The Lensic for an encore presentation. Directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire), Frankenstein features Benedict Cumberbatch (Hamlet, BBC’s Sherlock) as the creature and Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary, Trainspotting) in the roles of Victor Frankenstein. Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful Creature determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil, are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic tale.

Big Screen Classics: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)

Join us for a *free* Halloween screening of the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). The horror/sci-fi classic stars Larry Gates, Kevin McCarthy, and Dana Wynter as residents of a fictional California town where alien clones that look and act like the locals but don’t have any emotions—pod people! —are taking over. Based on Jack Finney’s 1954 novel, The Body Snatchers.
