Many exciting things lie ahead at your local senior center. The Betty Ehart Senior Center will turn into a mini mall 1-4 p.m., Tuesday,

A variety of businesses will be on hand to discuss projects, programs and products available in and around our community.

Many program partners and a few new faces will be on hand to answer questions about available resources for families. Join handmade crafts from Gabriella and Jerry; learn about assistance from Los Alamos Visiting Nurses, Nurses With Care, BeeHive, Ambercare, Home Instead, Los Alamos Medical Center, Heritage Trust Company, Viome and more.

There will be some fun education at hand, too with the Pajarito Environmental Education Center. Learn about programs, ways you can help our local center and quite possibly pick up a small gift that benefits PEEC. While Jarrod from the New Mexico Wildlife Center is quite dapper, Sadie only has eyes for you. Sol will be happy to demonstrate the full scale of her true beauty, and Pancho the enchanting Kestrel will capture your full attention.

September is just around the corner and programs abound at the Los Alamos and White Rock Senior Centers. Did you know that September is Senior Center Month? The theme for the nation is, “The key to aging well.”

One key to aging well is fitness and one might say we have that down to science. We have dance, cardio, yoga, table tennis, Tai Chi, Pilates and Zumba Gold. Now how about nutrition? Our chefs serve up lunch daily, if you reserve a spot by 10 a.m. that day. Later in September, White Rock Chef Mike Mason will take you to Canada with a meal of Montreal smoked roast beef on a bun, French fries, gravy and Nanaimo bars. You can call and find out prices, while you make your reservations.

We plan to start a singles group in September, too! Now settle down people, we are not looking to fan the flames of love, but to stoke the fires of friendship, fellowship and fun. The kick off meeting is 11-11:30 a.m., Sept. 6, at the Los Alamos location. We will start with an icebreaker, talk about some details and announce our first outing! Oh, those 50 and up only please.

The week of Sept. 23 is National Fall Prevention week. The community is invited to come try our chair exercise program. Would you like to borrow before you buy? We have lots of loaner equipment; you can take home and give it a try. We also have plans to offer resources and health boosting benefits for all.
