A group of 28 Mora Elementary School 4th graders participated in a field trip to the Bradbury Science Museum (BSM) thanks to a generous bus transportation grant provided by Los Alamos National Bank (LANB) through the Bradbury Science Museum Association (BSMA).

LANB Market President Liddie Martinez is the BSMA grant representative and said the bank is happy to partner with the BSMA to make it possible for students from northern New Mexico to experience a visit to the Bradbury Science Museum.

“We are so pleased to be able to continue our partnership with the BSMA this year and help bring northern New Mexico students to our science museum,” Martinez said.

BSM Educators Pam Dresher and Mel Strong provided the students with a fun engineering challenge. They were put into teams and needed to build a tower out of 3x5 index cards and scotch tape. The tower had to be 12 inches tall and able to hold the weight of a small stuffed toy for at least 10 seconds.

“This is a great field trip,” Mora Elementary representative Carol Tighe said. “We wouldn’t be able to be here without the transportation grant.”

About The BSMA

The BSMA is the 501(c)3 non-profit partner to the Bradbury Science Museum with the mission of promoting STEM education opportunities for people of all ages; and providing field trips for low-income students throughout northern New Mexico is one example of the BSMA’s STEM education outreach efforts.
