The Los Alamos Lads of Enchantment and the Santa Fe Harmonizers invite Los Alamos to join them for the 2019 Barbershop Harmony Show 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at the United Church of Los Alamos, 2525 Canyon Dr.

In a departure from prior years, the annual show will be presented in Los Alamos on a single night; however, the show also will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1200 Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe.

The opening part of the show, “Good Times,” will feature the men and women of the combined Los Alamos and Santa Fe choruses and their quartets under the direction of Maurice Sheppard, and the second part of the show will feature Special Guest Quartet, “Sound Check”, Salt Lake City’s premiere quartet and a Rocky Mountain District (RMD) Quartet medalist.

This year’s show will be narrated by Los Alamos’s Meredith Edwards. It will incorporate barbershop harmonies, storytelling and barbershop humor to provide an evening of light-hearted family entertainment.

“Good Times” will include a balanced blend of  familiar upbeat music (The Beatle’s “When I’m sixty four”; “Show me where the good times are”), popular classics (Roger Miller’s “King of the Road”; Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”; “After you’re gone”; “I don’t know why”); ballads (“Sentimental journey”; “Old songs are just like old friends”) and heart-felt Americana (“Ride the chariot” and a stirring arrangement of “America the beautiful”).

In addition to “Good Times”, Special Guest Quartet, Sound Check, will present a separate set of barbershop music and entertainment.

Sound Check is an experienced group based in Utah’s 2.3-million-person Wasatch Front metroplex that includes Salt Lake City, Ogden and Provo. The quartet is a medalist in Rocky Mountain District (RMD) Quartet Competition, and it has performed at Temple Square and numerous venues in the RMD.

Maurice Sheppard and some other chapter members saw Sound Check perform in competition at the RMD Convention and thought they were a good fit for the 2019 Barbershop Harmony Show.  Sound Check has good audience rapport and a nicely blended full sound, supported by their strong bass, Brian Dowd.
