From the John Blair for CD3 Campaign:

Democrat John Blair of Santa Fe is running for Congress in the 3rd Congrssional District.

Blair is a native New Mexican and graduate of Santa Fe High School. After a career committed to serving the people of New Mexico, Blair and his husband Billy call Santa Fe their home.

He got his start in politics as a legislative correspondent for Sen. Jeff Bingaman. In other words, he opened the mail.

“When you start at the bottom, there’s nowhere to go but up,” he said, adding that from Sen. Bingaman, he learned that real leaders put their heads down and work for the people they serve.

Working alongside New Mexico Supreme Court Justice Edward Chávez, Blair witnessed the principles of justice and fairness firsthand. He continued his service by working with then-U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich.

He said he is proud to have played a role in the fight to make healthcare more affordable and accessible, and in Sen. Heinrich’s efforts to make it easier for Native Americans to buy homes on tribal lands.

As director of Intergovernmental & External Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior, Blair worked for President Barack Obama to make the United States the world leader in combating climate change.  At Interior, he helped to take on oil companies and shape the Paris Climate Accord, he said.

Blair also served as the New Mexico Deputy Secretary of State for Maggie Toulouse Oliver, who has been fighting to make it easier for New Mexicans to vote, he said, securing same-day and automated voter registration across the state, and shined a light on dark money in elections.

Blair said he won’t take a cent from corporate PACs and will fight to end the stranglehold they and their Republican allies have in Washington, D.C., adding that he will always put New Mexico families first.
