Interfaith Los Alamos News:

Thanks to the generosity of a great many people in the Los Alamos faith-based community, Interfaith Los Alamos was able to gather 80 new winter coats plus 60 gift cards to buy winter coats for refugees recently resettled in Albuquerque.

Last Thursday, Dec. 6, the coats and gift cards were delivered to Lutheran Family Services in Albuquerque, the sole remaining organization in the State of New Mexico authorized to resettle refugees. They have recently received several large families of 10-12 persons, including small children, who come from places where even an Albuquerque winter is daunting. So winter coats are a most welcome addition without adding to the burden of already overstretched budgets while getting a new start in a new land.

Aaron Dubay, Director of Refugee & Asylee Resettlement at Lutheran Family Services, sent along this note recently posted on their website:

Highlight of the week:

In the spirit of the giving season, we thank Interfaith Los Alamos for giving us an abundance of winter coats. With their kind donation we were able to provide coats and sweaters to our refugee families. This is the second year in a row that they've done winter coat drives for us in addition to their back to school backpack drives and other donations.

Interfaith Los Alamos is a grass roots organization with points of contact in many local congregations. If you would like to know who your point of contact is, or whether your congregation has one, or perhaps volunteer to be one, send email to interfaith.losalamos@gmail.com.
