We enjoyed a beautiful long weekend camping at Heron Lake State Park, a two hour drive north of Los Alamos. Heron Lake has water!

The Park Ranger reports the water level has risen several inches in the past two weeks when they ceased releasing water from the Heron Lake dam into the Chama River flowing into El Vado lake.

The late summer wild flowers are abundant In the park, plenty of water to enjoy fishing, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing. The new young ospreys are now teenagers diving for lake fish.

The weather is perfect to enjoy hiking and biking the park trails overlooking the water. The 200 established camp sites are uncrowded. Don't miss enjoying fall activities in nearby northern New Mexico.
