Los Alamos MainStreet News:

Halloweekend returns to haunt Los Alamos Oct. 25-26, with Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet kicking off festivities 4-6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25.

Main Street and Central Avenue from 15th to 20th streets are closed to auto traffic and become a safe pedestrian area where local businesses and organizations distribute candy to costumed families.

This year, even more activities and booths also will be in Central Park Square. Freedom Church will have inflatables and Boese Brothers will be grilling hot dogs Friday in an outdoor picnic area set up on the Central Park Square lawn.

While businesses in the downtown area open their doors to the public, this also is an opportunity for businesses and organizations not located in the downtown area to be involved. This year, more than 90 businesses and organizations will be handing out candy during Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet.

Friday, Oct. 25 activities include Trick-or-Treating 3-5 p.m. at Los Alamos Medical Center and Enterprise Bank & Trust as well as several performances held at Central Avenue and Main Street by the Post Office, featuring the Los Alamos High School Olions, Dance Arts Los Alamos and Ridgeway Magic. Starting at 5:15 p.m., pets will march down Central Avenue in the Pet Costume Parade.

This year’s Pet Costume Parade is organized by Los Alamos High School senior Katie Herrmann for her Girl Scout Gold Award. Suggested donations will benefit the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter. No sign-up is required in advance, but participants should gather at the cement pad by Ashley Pond at 4:45 p.m. for check-in. Judges from Del Norte Credit Union, Enterprise Bank & Trust and Los Alamos Public Schools will award the winning pets with prizes sponsored by Pet Pangaea.

Stop by the Bradbury Science Museum 4-6 p.m. for High Tech Halloween and the YMCA 5-7 p.m. for the Costume Climb. The Los Alamos STEAM Lab is hosting 5-7 p.m. a Halloween-themed building contest.  Later in the evening, come out for the Haunted House 6-9 p.m., at Columbian Club Hall. An Evening with the HORRORchestra at Crossroads Bible Church at 7 p.m., and The Addams Family: A New Musical 7:30-9 p.m. at Duane Smith Auditorium.

Halloweekend festivities continue Saturday, Oct. 26, beginning with the Scarecrow Walk 1-2 p.m. on Central Avenue. After the viewing, the public is encouraged to vote for their favorite at CB FOX, Fuller Lodge Art Center or the Los Alamos Visitor Center. The winner in the Fan Favorite category, as well as four other categories, will be declared prior to the 6-9 p.m. Pumpkin Glow on the Fuller Lodge Lawn. Before the Pumpkin Glow, the Los Alamos Arts Council is hoping to break the world-record for “Most People Carving Pumpkins Simultaneously”; participants should arrive downtown no later than 2:45 p.m. to sign-in. Tickets are still available for purchase at CB FOX and through the Los Alamos Arts Council website. A Masquerade Recital is 5-6 p.m. at Fuller Lodge, with the evening culminating in Los Alamos MainStreet welcoming Eddy & The Nomads, who will provide live entertainment 6:30-9 p.m. inside Fuller Lodge. The Haunted House on DP Road and The Addams Family Musical at Duane Smith Auditorium also will be taking place.
