Fire In Los Alamos Canyon Consumes About 3 Acres

News Alert:

Los Alamos Fire Department Firefighters responded to a fire this afternoon that has consumed approximately 3 acres down in Los Alamos Canyon near the Canyon Rim Trailhead east of N.M. 502 and across from the Co+op Market and Holiday Inn Express.

Firefighters are working on fire lines for containment of the fire and making good progress at this time. The fire is not torching or crowning; this is a ground fire.

There is no estimate yet on the percentage of containment.

This fire is in the same area where a 4-acre fire occurred March 29.

N.M. 502 remains open to traffic but motorists are urged to avoid this area if possible, as this is an active fire-fighting scene.
