Have you noticed the beautifully painted fire hydrants along the Los Alamos MainStreet corridor?
This past week, and just in time to coincide with ScienceFest, five local artists took part in painting some of our fire hydrants with their original designs. Now it is up to YOU Los Alamos to choose our winners!
There are seven fire hydrants painted around town:
  • In front of the Bradbury Museum. Painted by Livy Snyder
  • On the lawn at Fuller Lodge. Painted by Ken Nebel and Chris Judson
  • In the front yard area of the Fuller Lodge Art Center. Painted by Ken Nebel and Chris Judson
  • On Bathtub Row, at the exit from the MPL parking lot. Painted by Shi Broadwell
  • On Bathtub Row, north of Juniper St. Painted by Zena Thomas
  • In front of the Justice Center. Painted by Steven Calhoun
  • At the NW corner of the Ashley Pond Park, near the elephant. Painted by Steven Calhoun
Voting will be open through close of business Friday, Sept. 12. Winners will be announced Saturday, Sept. 13 on the stage at Ashley Pond at approximately 2 p.m. as part of the ScienceFest Expo Day.
Ballots can be obtained at (and returned) to the Chamber of Commerce, 109 Central Park Square, or Fuller Lodge Art Center. For those who prefer to go paperless, vote online at
Voting online is fast, easy, free and does not require setting up an account of any kind. Simply go to the above website, look at the pictures, and choose your favorite.
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in the form of Chamber Checks in the amounts of $75, $50 and $25 respectively.
