Udall Explains his Opposition to Limited Military Strike on Syria to NM Press

In a telephone press conference with New Mexico media this morning, Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., explained his position opposing a limited military strike on Syria.

“The United States has not yet exhausted all political, economic and diplomatic options,” Udall said. “The administration hasn’t made a case that a limited military strike will deter the use of chemical weapons. If our goal is to save lives, a military strike is not the best response.”

Charlie Rose has recorded an interview in Damascus with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which will run in its entirety in a special presentation on KNME-New Mexico PBS at 7 p.m. today on Ch. 5.1.

In the interview, Charlie Rose asks Assad about the use of chemical weapons in Syria. (KNME will pre-empt the 7 p.m. episode of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, then resume regular programming.)

This past weekend over 500 New Mexico Democrats attended our first “Rising Star” Dinner, which was a sold out extravaganza. Congressman Jaoquin Castro spoke strongly and eloquently about how Democrats are slowly but surely turning America ‘blue.’ The next day, close to 300 Dems attended our Fall SCC meeting which conducted important business, listened to potential 2014 candidates and adjourned early!

Central Labor Council Hosts Labor Day Celebration

The Central Labor Council put on a big Labor Day party in Santa Fe to celebrate the contributions labor made to America.  

Beginning with making a middle class and including vacation and sick days, then establishing the 40 hour work week, abolishing child labor, and making safe conditions of employment, labor has been a huge  group to make America what it is.  

Between 300 and 400 people came to the events.The Salt of the Earth  sang songs and poetry was read.

Los Alamos Federated Republican Women Meet Sept. 12

The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women will meet noon to 2 p.m., Sept. 12 at the Ridgepark Clubhouse on Oppenheimer Drive.

NMFRW will kick off its Voter Registration Drive at the meeting with County Clerk Sharon Stover attending to certify members who wish to help with new voter registration. 

Voting for Delegates and Alternates to the NMFRW State Convention also will take place during the Sept. 12 meeting.

Members are reminded to bring non-perishable food items for the LA Cares Food Bank and toiletries for the Women's Shelter in Espanola.

Udall Votes Against Proposal to Use Force in Syria

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Wednesday, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., voted in the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations to oppose a resolution authorizing military action in Syria in response to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons.
 
The resolution passed the committee by a vote of 10-7. The full Senate will consider the resolution by next week.
