Downtown Without Power Wednesday Night

on July 5, 2012 - 9:10am

DPU News:

Businesses and some residences in the Los Alamos downtown area lost power for more than three hours Wednesday night.

The outage, bounded by 20th Street to East Road and Central Avenue to Trinity Drive, was caused when a cable termination failed, according to Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities officials.

While electric lineman began receiving reports of the outage at midnight, other indicators suggest that the outage began just after 11 p.m. July 4.

Crews were dispatched, isolated the fault and repaired the cable termination and by 2:30 a.m., had restored power.

The Department of Public Utilities (DPU) operates the county-owned electric, gas, water and wastewater systems under the jurisdiction of the Board of Public Utilities.

The Board meets the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m., and the public is always welcome.

The DPU is funded by rates paid for electric, gas, water and wastewater services and auxiliary fees, and has provided the community with these services for more than 40 years.
