DA Serna Announces Two Vehicular Homicide Defendants Sentenced To 12 Years And 8 Years In Prison

SANTA FE First Judicial District Attorney Marco Serna announced April 10 the sentences for two Vehicular Homicide defendants.
Yvonne Martinez pleaded guilty to Homicide by Vehicle (DUI) for a July 1, 2016 incidentand was sentenced to 12 years in prison and the court found that it was a Serious Violent Offense based on prior history and level of intoxication (.20).
Kasey Weaver sentenced to 8 years in prison.
Kasey Weaver was convicted by jury trial of Vehicular Homicide (DUI) for an incident that occurred on April 16, 2017 with a .17 level of intoxication, and was today sentenced to eight years in prison. There were 18 family members present at sentencing on behalf of the victim in the case.
“Combating drunk driving and keeping our roads safe in New Mexico is critical for public safety, and we will aggressively prosecute those who endanger the lives of innocent victims on our roads,” Serna said.
Deputy District Attorney Blake Nichols prosecuted both cases.
