County Cone Zone: Week Of March 18

New Mexico Department of Transportation(NMDOT) and Star Paving Company will begin roadway reconstruction on N.M. 502 from mile post 1.257 to mile post 2.053 in Los Alamos. The contractor will begin construction and preparation for detour paving.
Starting this week: N.M. 502 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Motorists can expect minor delays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and short duration temporary closures during non-peak hours at the east end of the project in the existing 2-lane section of the roadway using flagging operation.
This project will improve NM 502 through Los Alamos between Knecht Street and Tewa Loop for a total project length of 0.8 miles. This project will include roadway reconstruction, earthwork, curb and gutter, sidewalk, concrete retaining walls, storm drain, landscaping, permanent signing, lighting, traffic signalizations, and utilities.  The project will also replace the existing intersection at N.M. 502 and Central Avenue with a roundabout to improve traffic flow through Los Alamos.
The project cost is $10.8 million. This is a 350 working day project. Project is anticipated to be completed Winter of 2020; weather permitting. Star Paving Company out of Albuquerque is the contractor for the project.

Barranca Rd: Possible road disruption (CableCom)
  • CableCom may be working this week to replace overhead cable lines from the North Side of Barranca Rd toward the South side of the road at 202 El Viento. Expect a flagging operation between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
