County Addresses Summer Concert Series Comments On New Vendor Selection

on January 31, 2019 - 12:09pm

Los Alamos County officials responded today to comments from the public questioning possible award of the contract for the popular Summer Concert Series to a new vendor.

Last year, the concerts were produced under a contract with Gordon’s Concerts LLC operated by Abe Gordon and Kara Robertson. However, as in all previous years, the County released a competitive-bid Request For Proposal (RFP) to call for interested, qualified vendors to produce the Summer Concert Series. The Community Services Department, which manages the contract, is required under procurement code to conduct an open and fair procurement process.

Brian Brogan, Community Services Director, said that the County received more than one proposal for the summer concert series. In an RFP process, vendors are evaluated on a variety of factors ranging from experience, background in providing the services requested, professional staffing, examples of service, and cost. An evaluation team scores the proposals and the highest ranked firm is recommended for the bid award. The information is then forwarded to the procurement office to begin contract negotiations.

“Late yesterday afternoon, in response to a specific inquiry from the Gordons, the County’s procurement office sent an email informing them that the review committee had recommended another vendor for the award,” said Harry Burgess, County Manager, adding that a contract has not yet been signed.

Under procurement rules, if the selected vendor does not accept the terms of the contract, the County would move forward with pursuing the next highest-ranked recommendation. Until then, the County maintains confidentiality of any information about the bidders or their proposals.

Once the award is finalized and signed, the County will release the name of the successful vendor.
