Community Invited To 9th Annual Crab Fest Feb. 24

The Rotary Club of Los Alamos is pleased to invite the community to its 9th Annual Crab Fest, Saturday Feb. 24, at the Knights of Columbus Hall at the intersection of Trinity Drive and DP Road. 

Social time with a cash bar begins at 5:30 p.m., dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and Rotarian Tony Chan will provide guitar music.

Tickets for the all-you-can-eat crab and prawn family-style dinner with sides and dessert are $50 each and can be purchased at Bennett’s Fine Jewelry on Central Avenue or by calling Skip King at 505.662.8832 or Linda Hull at 505.662.7950. 

Proceeds this year will support the construction of a treehouse at the PEEC Nature Center and trail improvements at Camp May. The funds raised also will benefit local scholarships for Los Alamos High School and Los Alamos Middle School students, and international projects in Mexico, Guatemala, Nepal and Nicaragua.

The silent and live auctions this year will feature a number of note-worthy items. In the silent auction, guests will have opportunities to bid on original oil and watercolor paintings by local artists; autographed books; jewelry; a Balinese tablecloth; a wine connoisseur package including bottles of fine wine; a champagne package including flutes and buckets; hand-blown glass from Tesuque Glassworks; coin sets; an autographed, framed poster of Joe Montana; a gift certificate from Secret City Kitchen; an autographed photo of Charlton Heston; annual movie passes to the Reel Deal Theater; an Ortega Weaving Studio wool handbag; a Vera Bradley bag; Vietnamese lacquer plates; Navajo sand paintings; and many assorted gift cards as well as numerous other items.

The live auction will offer temptations that include a weekend at Rancho Nambé; lunch with professional basketball player Alex Kirk; spring clean-up by Oasis Landscape; a picnic lunch and customized tour of Bandelier led by Park Ranger Bob Loy with bird banding and a picnic lunch; a 20-minute scenic helicopter ride with Classic Air Medical for 2-3 people; a Blue Window Bistro dinner; $500 in advertising in the Los Alamos Daily Post; a lunch with Mars Rover scientist Dr. Roger Wiens, a wine dinner at the Pig and Fig; a $500 certificate for Don Taylor portraits; website development and hosting; and a scenic airplane ride over Northern New Mexico, as well as other brunch and dinner opportunities.
