COMMUNITY News:

Steven Bullock and Jacob Werner, Los Alamos High School students and members of the Boys Scouts Troop 22, will receive their Eagle Scout Rank during a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Fuller Lodge.

To earn Eagle Rank, Bullock and Werner each completed civic projects. Bullock’s project involved leading a group of fellow scouts doing trail work at the Cherokee Wildlife Preserve in Sedalia, Colo.

Werner’s project included building a series of sidewalks and access ramps to the shotgun range at the Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club. The project cost more than $10,000 and took 300 work hours to complete. It allows for easier access for all shooters but the new sidewalks and ramps are especially beneficial to the aged and mobility impaired.

Steven Bullock

Bullock began Scouting in 2011 and has been heavily involved in the organization. Bullock, who is originally from Castle Pines, Colo., joined Colorado Troop 316, was awarded the Arrow of Light, and took on his first leadership position as assistant patrol leader.

In 2015, Bullock presented the flag with fellow scouts at a Denver Nuggets basketball game. Later that year, he became patrol leader and earned his first Polar Bear badge on a cold night in the Rockies. He has attended two of the 'Triple Crown' of adventure camps - the sailing camp out of the Abacos, Bahamas in 2016 and the Northern Tier canoeing camp in Minnesota. He hopes to complete the Triple Crown with a trip planned for Philmont in early June 2020.

Fellow scouts have honored him by requesting he officiate as Master of Ceremonies at four separate Courts of Honor. In the fall of 2018, he was recognized by the Denver Area Council receiving the Boy Scouts of America 'National Merit Award for Heroism'.

Additionally, Bullock received his four-year service pin in 2018 completing his Eagle project the same year. After his family moved to Los Alamos, Bullock became part of Troop 22 in 2018.

Outside of scouting, Bullock is a member of the National Honor Society, plays football and golf, is fluent in Chinese and is an accomplished pianist. He also is a member of the Youth Advisory Board at the Bradbury Science Museum and serves on the Los Alamos High School student council.

Jacob Werner

Werner also is from Castle Pines, Colo. He began his career in scouts as Cub Scout Pack 826. He earned his Arrow of Light in 2013 before moving on to Troop 637. In 2015, Werner’s family moved to Los Alamos and he joined Troop 22.

In addition to scouting, Werner is a member of the Los Alamos High School marching band, is a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Council and works a weekend job for Domino’s Pizza. Werner recently completed Confirmation at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
