ART News:
The first Multicultural Fair: Around the World in White Rock took place in 2013 when Julie Bulthuis, ELL (English Language Learners) teacher and Renee Mitsunaga, Chamisa Art teacher submitted a Great Ideas Grant from the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation.
Subsequently, the success of the event validated funding through the Fine Arts Education Act authorized by our former Superintendent Gene Schmidt.
Every year the event grew to more participants. Stephanie Rittner, art teacher from Pinon Elementary, became an integral partner in the fair as both schools showcased student artwork.
The last three years, the choirs from both schools enthralled the crowd with multicultural songs and dances.
Needless to say what made this multicultural fair so special was the student presentations. These students proudly spoke to attendees about their own cultures while showing the informational boards they created. Julie brought out their sense of pride and encouraged each student and their family members to share their gifts with all of us.
