A bench warrant was issued for Perez-Trujillo's arrest May 4, 2000, after he failed to appear for his arraignment on drug charges. Perez-Trujillo was subsequently charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, and a federal arrest warrant was issued by the United States District Court, State and District of New Mexico Aug. 15, 2000.
