Connect New Mexico Council & Office Of Broadband Access And Expansion To Convene And Kick-Off Collaborative Work

SANTA FE — The newly established Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) and Connect New Mexico Council (CNMC) will meet for the first time starting at 4 p.m. MST, Friday, Jan. 14.

The CNMC and OBAE plan for an official introduction of members, which includes, Jeremy Lovato, Juan Torres, Eli Guinnee, Raja Sambandam, Joseph Navarreté, Bogi Malecki, Martica Casias, Luis Reyes, Launa B. Waller, Katherine Crociata, Steve L. Grey, Jim R. Ruybal, Christopher Becenti, Godfrey Enjady, Kimball Sekaquaptewa. Full list of names and titles can be found here.

The CNMC and OBAE will discuss the future of the office, grant programs and federal funding opportunities.

In April of 2021, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed legislation establishing the OBAE to centralize and coordinate broadband activities across state government agencies, local governmental bodies, tribal governmental organizations, and internet service providers.

In addition, the Connect NM Council was established to oversee $130 million in the Connect New Mexico Fund for broadband grants and infrastructure appropriations made during the 2021 legislative session.
